We we there on a Tuesday night. We sat outside because there was a nice breeze. Even though it wasn't busy, the service was slow. It took 20 to 30 minutes to get our appetizers. The food was good, the prices were reasonable. I doubt that I would go back

The last time my family and I ate here previous to this time was about 10 years ago. Back then I thought it was okay and very kids friendly. We also liked going because it was on the water at Barefoot Landing. This past visit was disappointing. The staff was hanging out more than paying attention to the guests. Our waiter was training a new hire, so you would think he was one of the better ones on staff. I hope that's not the case, he was well below average. They didn't keep our drinks filled and the oops I forgot what you asked was more common than anything else. The food was okay, but nothing that will want me to come back.

Seafood is good, order one of the buckets. Staff needs to work on serving customers instead of putting on a dance show every 5 mins.

This place is just awesome..plain and simple. the service was fast and friendly. The food came out cooked spot on....a bucket full of crab..lobster...scallops...mussels....umm what's not to like!

We've come here every year since 2011 and enjoyed it every time. We came here today for dinner and had an excellent experience. Our server, Des, was very bubbly and enthusiastic. She seemed to truly enjoy working here, and was focused on accommodating us and pleasing the customer. She would always make sure to refill our sodas and ask if we needed anything/how the food was. The staff occasionally does a cute little dance and they're always smiling. Be warned, it's very loud, so if you can't handle loud-ish music and constant chatter, then this probably isn't the place for you. I had the Shrimp Trio; my daughter had the Crab Cake Sandwich; my father had the Hook-Up (not sure but I think that's it); and my mother had the Stuffed Shrimp with crab. For appetizers, my daughter and I split the Great Fire Balls. They were excellent, cream cheese-and-jalapeno goodness. They came with a side of fries and ranch. The fries here are lightly sprinkled with some kind of seasoning/spice and they are delicious! The ranch was also excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals. My daughter's sandwich wasn't filled with the junk that a lot of restaurants tend to fill their crab cakes with these days. It was just pure crab, and it was great! Everyone enjoyed their food. The waitress was very accommodating when my father asked to have regular fried shrimp instead of coconut shrimp. She didn't make it seem like a chore at all. My daughter and I split the Granny's Apple Crumble for dessert. Oh my goodness, it was like heaven in a dish. The cinnamon ice cream could have been dessert on its own, and the apple crumble was warm and melted in our mouths. Overall, excellent food and excellent service. We will definitely be coming here again!

If you plan on going in the evening, expect a wait. Our wait on a Friday night at 6:30 ended up being about an hour. The atmosphere is boisterous. Expect a lot of families and loud music. The crab legs were good. Once we were seated, the service was good.

If you are a fan of low country broil, you will love this place. Service is swift and friendly. Good place to gorge.

We chose to sit outside because there was no wait, big mistake! Even though they had fans they were not rotating fast enough to circulate the humid July evening air! Our waitress was awesome and very attentive. The kitchen even accommodated my on my steam pot, I ordered the KJ steam pot and I have an allergy to crab so the substituted clams for crab. It was delicious!

  • Tamika G.

Just ok. I LOVE crabs...but to me the amount of money you spend on crabs here is not worth it. There are so many buffets at Myrtle beach that are all you can eat for the same price. The atmosphere is nice, staff is friendly, the view outside is great especially at night. Nice fireworks. Food IMO is mediocre, nothing amazing. Nice drink menu.

  • Brandi G.

I was kind of disappointed this time in Joe's Crab Shack. The other few times I had been there were amazing! This is our second time getting the Shark Bite drink and this one wasn't nearly as good and they had totally cheaped it down some (less sharks, less fun). The food was mediocre but the service was good. Probably won't be back again unfortunately.

Great meal at Joe's Crab Shack. Took my hubby there for the first time and everything was hot and delicious. The only complaint we had was the mixed berry cobbler was too big... Lol. Tip share it

The crab legs were cooked perfectly and seasoned like true Cajun style. The staff was friendly and professional. We'll be back to Barefoot to eat here again.

Fantastic food, the crab legs were seasoned great, we were there on Monday night and had a great view of the fireworks from the deck seating. Our server, April was great!

This is a good all around place to go for seafood. My wife and I decided not to order any of the buckets because of the prices! So instead we decided to get peel and eat shrimp and crab stuffed shrimp. We both really enjoyed our food and it was priced reasonably. There were also happy hour drinks that were cheap and strong which we both enjoyed. Also our waiter Joel was awesome. He did a great job helping us with everything which made it that much better! I would recommend this place to everyone for a seafood dinner! It's also better than the one in celebrity circle!

Ordered the Shore Grill and the Mahi was overcooked and burned however the bacon on the bacon wrapped shrimp was raw.

My wife and I ate here last time we were in the area. She Loved the crab legs! They were the best she'd ever had. They are pricey though. Great service, great food and crab legs that can't be beat!

We visited Joe's for dinner on a Thursday night. We were originally told that the wait would be at least an hour, but we were seated within 20 minutes. I really like the text-when-table-ready feature instead of having to carry around a disk while waiting on it to light up. We ordered the Crab Daddy Feast steam pot that contained corn, potatoes, crab legs and shrimp. It was served quickly, was cooked well, and was plenty to eat. The cost was $28.99. Our waitress at this location was Alina and is very nice and very entertaining. The facility is well organized and clean. Joe's is a master of handling large numbers of diners and gets them in and out with ease. Their professionalism shows and the crowds reflect that. We had a great time and will visit again.

We have eaten here several times. The food and services have always been very good. Yesterday I had the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp which was yummy. It change with dirty rice which was so-so. I was expecting it to be spicier. It was bland enough that my one year old granddaughter liked it. The green beans were just the right tenderness without being mushy. Server was very attentive and promptly brought out my hush puppies when I inquired as to why they weren't on my plate. Their hush puppies are the best I've ever eaten, and I usually don't like them. I have seen a lot of complaints about high prices but I find them reasonable for this area.

  • Lindsay B.

Way overpriced! There are much better places to eat for the price. I order the lobster bisque which had no lobster in it, tasted like tomato soup. Our main meals took an hour to be served. Not great!

Food is consistently excellent. Drinks are amazing but overpriced for no buzz. Try a steampot, but be prepared to get messy!

Service was GREAT and so was the food. The Snow Crab Legs were delicious and the drinks were strong, perfect. I got the Sam Adams Steampot and it was enough to feed two!! Would recommended absolutely, and will be visiting soon again!

Stopped by today, I have been to a Joe's before but it has been a while. Had an amazing lunch, Alina was our server and she did an amazing job with keeping out drinks cold and filled and I think my son fell in love with her. Food was just awesome, classic joes steampot, and mahi tacos. Drinks are some of the best around. I suggest the margaritas or the sailor Mai tai. Pricey but well worth it my opinion. I'm a fan. Thanks for an awesome lunch.

Good food/great service. We tried this based on the reviews. We are a family of 5 (6yr, 5 yr, 1 yr old). My 1 year old was having a HUGE temper tantrum and the waitress was awesome! She went out of her way to help us out. Food: for starters we had chower (good) and the crab dip (okay). I ordered a blackened fish (was average) and my husband had the crab cakes (okay). 2 kids got the mac-n-cheese and the kids fried basket (fried shrimp, fried white fish, and fries cheese sticks.... heart attack in a basket). They all liked their food. This is a good restaurant for feeding the masses or large groups. Not a place I would recommend for foodies.

Stinking amazing! Best Crab Legs and for a Corporate Restaurant and the Staff are awesome!! Kody was our waiter, and he was flippin' awesome! Ask for him by name he will take care if you!

Had dinner there our first night at Myrtle Beach. We tried the one at Venice Beach, CA and really liked it so we figured to give it a try. We shared Joe's crab pot and it was plenty of food for 3 people. It had really good crab, corn, sausage, shrimp and potatoes. You put a Corona in top of that and you're good to go. Place is indeed loud but i think is part of the charm. Staff dances to some of the songs. Its a little pricey but i think is worth it. Why i didn't give the 5 stars? Well my wife thought the hostess was rude and pretty much ignored us all the time...

We came here yesterday evening. We were in town for a concert at the House of Blues which is in the same area and fairly close. I had written down a few cool local seafood joints because I am ALL ABOUT local when it comes to my east coast food, but my husband is from a landlocked state and just doesn't understand. Anyway, he said he loved Joe's and it was close so I conceded due to it being a birthday dinner/show situation. The area is really pretty (Barefoot landing) and it has a very mellow/upscale beach vibe which i'm all for. All seemed well walking up to the restaurant. It wasn't super busy and the noise seemed to be down. We walked in and everyone was kind of scattered, but after a minute or so we were acknowledged and taken to a table outside which was great because it was freaking gorgeous, but then we got sat right next to a table with 4 kids who were moving all around and loud as crap. My husband normally isn't one to say anything so I just smiled and went with it. There were other open tables, but nope-sit the couple with no kids next to the routy Brady Brunch. Birth control! We get our server guy and he's super nice and asking us what we want to drink and another server comes up and says, "This is my table sooooo" and they have a little conversation right next to us. He leaves, she leaves-they show eachother their tips...we didn't get any drinks. So, we're waiting for about 5 minutes. She comes and takes out drink order and when she comes back, we only have time to order the appetizer. Then, she's gone again. We ordered our food and then it seemed like she was there every 3 minutes after that so I don't know if that's just her personality, but I wasn't going to dock her for over-attention. My husbands food was okay, but he hated the crab for whatever reason. My food was good, but wasn't overly impressive. The fries were a letdown, but it's a seafood joint. I'm not a massive seafood fan anyway, but I feel like this place could do better. The outside seating is great, but I found it hard to enjoy much else. Then, we got the check and having no prior knowledge of this place, my heart stopped. It was about $80....for 2 people...next to some screaming kids. WTF. I could understand if we got all lobster or something, but he got some sort of half order bake thing and I got chicken with fries. Insanity, but i've learned my lesson. I will stick to my habit of local joints and dissuade the husband from his crazy chain restaurant ideas. I wanted to put 2 stars but I don't want to be a total jerk so there's 3 because the outside seating makes me happy and my drink didn't go empty.

We had a lot of fun here! Great atmosphere, the servers danced and were pretty lively. The kids all got lemonade that tasted like water with a splash of lemon and the server never remembered to bring out replacements. Lucky for me I got an alcoholic drink so I didn't have to deal with that!! All of the tables were set up with metal pails for trash and other filled with the silverware you need for your meal. Well our table was missing the pails and we got our food way before the silverware. That kinda sucked because my steak & potatoes got a bit cold before I could eat them. My corn on the cob was really cold and not too pleasant to eat. We asked our server to take a pic of our group & she cut off 1 of the kids. Uhm ok, thanks...hahaha Overall we liked our food and we had a good time despite a few mishaps. Sign up online and you can get a free appetizer.

The crab was top notch but definitely overpriced. We had the crab fries as an appetizer and the portion size was huge. Again the food was good but we went to 21 Main across the street which is truly 5 star and our tab was less.

We dine at Joe's whenever we get a chance, normally it's when we are on vacation. The food is always consistent and we haven't had a bad meal yet. We really like these steam pots they have. The sharing size is enough for three people maybe four. The sampler platter is worth the money, everything on the platter was tasty- especially the hush puppies. They are kinda like crab cakes.

5 of us ate at joes last night. My wife and my food was ok but nothing special. Service was lousy. Silverware arrived 5 minutes after our food. A problem with on of the orders was shrugged off with a side of attitude and a disappearing act. Had to flag down another server who got the manager who took care of the problems. To be fair other servers seem to appear at their tables frequently but I won't be back.

Our waitress was one of the friendliest people I have ever met. Young person just trying to make a living, doing a good job hopefully. I will definitely leave her a decent tip. Prices for crabs are little on the high side .. Prices for everything else looks about average so I cannot complain. They have excellent outside seating on the water which makes it even more nice. Food (steak) was excellent. I will come back the next time I'm in town and I suggest you give it a try. At barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach South Carolina

It had been about 5 years since I went to Joe's. That's how bad it was 5 years ago. Well I see things haven't changed. I had the Crab leg steam pot and can safely say these were the worse crab legs I've ever had. I think I threw 90% of it in the trash bucket. My wife had some type of shrimp dish and said it was lame as well. I'll never step foot in another Joe's as long as I live.

We were at Joe's Crab Shack back in August 2013 and it was amazing. Our server Patrick was great and we loved the dancing by the server. The food was great and they had a wide variety of t-shirts at the front so my daughter could remember her evening there. There is nothing bad I can say about this place and we can't wait to return next year. Hopefully Patrick will still be there because he is amazing.

This place is noisy. Very noisy. That works for my family. We are noisy and blend in. We chose to eat outside because of our noisy 20 month old. First, the positives. The staff is very attentive and treats you like their friends. I liked this a ton. Especially when the waiter laughed at me for not being able to finish my Sam Adams meal. There was dancing and clapping at random times. My kids loved it. My 4 year old even requested the manager play the music out on the deck more and she went right to it and piped it outside. My wife and the kids loved their food. They bought generic stuff like fish stick and chicken strips. Me, I am not a seafood kinda guy but decided to try it. I never got seafood. It tastes like a spungey chicken. But, that said, everything was cooked well. The clams were...well... clams. The crab was... well... crab. They were good for what they were. Now for my favorite. The Southern Spiked Tea. My new favorite mixed drink. I loved it. It was worth the trip. Now for the negative, it was quite expensive. That is pretty much all I can complain about. The location was good and we loved our seating arrangements. I will say that seafood and crab in general is always expensive. So if you are looking for such, always be prepared to pay for it wherever you go. I would go back to this place if, for nothing else, a nice steak and most importantly, the tea.

Joe's is a tourist trap... but a good one. PRO: decent fresh steam seafood. very happy atmosphere. very friendly wait staff. Extremely helpful manager. Food was very fresh. snow crab legs are better than any buffet places in myrtle beach area. Ask waitress for $5 special appetizer (we went there on Sunday). I forgot what it was called but it was with pepper in shrimp balls and dip, out of this world. The best value is the second page at the bottom.... something Joe's shack combo. 2 huge sections of crab legs high quality. Even the sausage was a high quality sausage. The corn was sweet and not over cooked. CON: super long wait, if you want to avoid the wait, go there before 5pm. a bit salty. Order the combo in garlic sauce and then order the spicy dip on the side to avoid eating salt. be careful when ordering the queen crab with lobster combo, the queen crab legs is only weight 2 oz... we made a complain about it and the manager add a 8 oz legs section to please us. very nice. but if you want queen crab legs, order from the left side of the menu and not the combo. Pretty pricey. I will return to Joe's if I have the time to wait for a table (or get there early).

Food was good. Stoner employees were out in their cars smoking pot. No wonder the waitress forgot to give us utensils.

  • Suzanna S.

The Grilled Salmon with rice was tasty, the broccoli was good but too buttery. The service was ok, the waitress forgot that we ordered the sampler for appetizer. We chose to dine outdoor and enjoy the beautiful weather and view.

Food was okay, had the fish sandwich, was there doing lunch but it was very loud and too expensive for what you get. Definitely a tourist trap. Much better seafood choices at the beach.

We went in for a quick lunch on a Monday afternoon. Awful. Iceberg lettuce was filthy (mildew?). Drink glasses were greasy. Waiter rarely refilled drinks. Crab nachos were really good (!) but had barely any crab. Fish and chips were greasy, soggy and tough. Mahi sandwich stood out because it didn't have an overwhelming quality that made it repulsive. We weren't sitting near the bathrooms or a mop bucket or anything, but the whole area smelled like dirty water. Yum. To top it off, on the way out we walked by the kitchen and looked in, and it was grimy. Food on the floor, employees lounging around, prep surfaces soiled. Gross. Won't be back. There are other places that do touristy beach restaurant without all the nastiness.

Good food. Not Great! This was my wife and I, first time here. Great concept for eating seafood..... But for the money $115. 00 for drinks, dinner and dessert and service that was unhelpful, Not worth it! Sorry but value or good food, you always want both but would be nice to get the one. In this case I paid for overpriced seafood (by by value) and ok service. Nothing to go crazy about. Will not eat here again, but like everything you have to try it yourself....... But just remember as you read this you where the ones that wanted to try it anyway. Till next time. David.R

I love crab. It's one of my favorite things to eat. If you don't like crab, don't go to Joe's Crab Shack -- because if you don't order crab, you will be disappointed with your food. The times I've been there and had their other fish, it has been sub-par and not at all worth the price. However, their Steampots are possibly my favorite thing to eat in Myrtle Beach. My favorite is the Sunset Fire-Grilled Steampot, which comes with Dungeness crab, Snow crab, boiled shrimp, red potatoes, an ear of corn, and smoked sausage, all deliciously spiced. For an appetizer we had the Great Balls of Fire and the Crab Nachos, both of which were very good. Keep in mind, this is a crab shack; if you're doing it right, you WILL get messy. The restaurant is always very busy and crowded, so try and get a seat outside -- it's right on the water and makes for a more pleasant evening. Service was fast despite the crowd. If you have kids in your party, they have a playground outside for them.

PROS: Sam Adams steampot was awesome. Very tasty and filling. Very attentive waitstaff. CONS: Pricey for Myrtle Beach and considering the quality. We're not talking McCormick and Schmick's here.

This place is just great. I ordered one of the steam pots with the cajun seasoning. The crab is out of the world. I would recommend getting one of these steam bots. The service was extremely friendly and even danced to some songs. Also, try to eat on the patio ( it's so beautiful). Great place.

This is a large seafood restaurant located in Barefoot Landing; an outdoor shopping and entertainment complex. The restaurant consists of indoor and outdoor seating, a bar, and a gift shop filled with Joe's souvenirs. The decor is rustic, giving the place a real "shack" feel. My wife and I took a seat outside along the lake. I ordered the Fried Fish Fillets while my wife had the Blackened Mahi Sandwich. Though not unique, the food was absolutely delicious. The food did not disappoint, but the waitstaff seemed tired and offered no enthusiasm. I asked where the original Joe's started and not one person had a clue. Well, guess what, it's Houston! The chain started in 94' and has spread like Herpes ever since, with 120 locations in 28 states. Since 06', they were bought by Landry's restaurants. Nothing like a chain being bought by a chain. Mmmmmm mmmmmm. .

We were really excited to go to Joe's after not having been to one in almost 3 years. The food was pretty good, although some of my husband's shrimp were over cooked making them rubbery. The decor is typical of any Joe's Crab Shack and the service was less than perfect. Overall I give it 3 stars, but there is definitely room for improvement at this location

    (3)
  • Justin C.

The snow crab legs were perfect. If you like sweet tea and mixed drinks I recommend the spiked sweet tea. It was amazing. The cobb salad was decent. We asked for no bleu cheese and it came with it anyway. That's the only complaint. Service was great and we would revisit.

This place was crazy! Busy to the point you couldn't hardly walk through the place without bumping into at least 5 people. We went around 4:30pm on a Monday. The crab bucket was tasty but very little food for the price. We actually left hungry and still spent $60. Oh yeah, we all got water to drink. Won't go back. Oh, and the manager (or some other person working there of authority) was "grinding" on one of the waitresses in some kind of simulated dancing maneuver as I walked past with my 8 year old nephew. Very professional....

When I visited my aunt in North Carolina, our plane landed in Myrtle Beach so our entire family got together at Barefoot Landing, a great palce to shop, ride some little carnival rides and of course eat. So when my family decided it was time to chow down, we walked into Joe's Crab Shack. The decor was very eclectic and I loved it. We were immediately seated and helped by a friendly waitress. Then, to my delightful surprise, the entire wait staff started to dance to the chicken dance song! And I danced right along with them. That was great. After that, the food came and it was so good. I got the fish and chips and that was very well cooked. Then again came the dancing. This time being the YMCA. Overall it was a wonderful trip.

First, this is just a review of THIS location. I actually am a fan of Joe's Crab Shack because when you have a hankering for a good steam pot, this is a great place to go. However, I must say that this is not one of the better locations. We went with a large party (9) and were seated immediately, although it was very busy. We ordered and the prices were higher than other locations (to be expected in MB, I guess). Anyway, the service was not very good in my opinion and we had to track our waitress down too often, even for a busy evening. I got the lobster daddy steampot and enjoyed everything but the lobster. The reason I do not recommend this place is the level of service, errors that were present with other orders in my party. Also, once the errors were pointed out we had to wait for a manager, who did correct the problem. However, everyone else was almost finished eating by the time a corrected order of steamed crab legs was brought out. That was all that was required - steamed crab legs. Sorry, but in comparison to other locations this one does not do Joe's Crab Shack any justice and I would not return.

We hate eating at chains. We prefer the local restaurants but when we arrived in Myrtle Beach we had some time to kill so we shopped at Barefoot Landing. We ate at Joes at around 2 on a Saturday afternoon. My daughter was celebrating a birthday and she had fun as the entire section was encouraged to sing to her. I had Chipoltle Crabcake Caesar, husband had Blackened Mahi sandwich, children both had grilled shrimp from kids menu. I was very pleased with my salad. There was a lot of romaine, one crabcake and little else. Although all the flavors were there the corn and black beans that were on the salad were a bit sparse to say the least. The Mahi sandwich was great. The kids menu with the grilled shrimp was nice. And both kids ate it all. We rarely order from the kids menu, but grilled shrimp was a good choice. Aside from being seated at a dirty table the staff was good enough and kept our drinks full. We actually went back again at the end of vacation and ordered the same things but one daughter had the coconut shrimp which is soooo good. My salad was a lot better this time too.
